Iluvien (Fluocinolone Acetonide Implant)
ILUVIEN is an injectable intravitreal implant used in the treatment of diabetic macular edema. Using a microimplant, the device delivers continuous low doses of fluocinolone acetonide directly to the retina for up to 36 months with just one injection. Fluocinolone acetonide is a type of corticosteroid that is used to treat inflammation and swelling. ILUVIEN is approved by the FDA for the treatment of diabetic macular edema.
The ILUVIEN procedure is performed in-office by a retinal surgeon.
