Retina Group of Florida Welcomes Two New Retina Specialists
We’re proud to announce that the Retina Group of Florida physician team is expanding, as two fellowship-trained retina specialists have recently joined our practice. With the very welcome additions of Dr. Renata Picciani and Dr. George Skopis, our practice will be able to continue in our mission of providing unrivaled vitreoretinal care and treatment to patients throughout Florida.
Meet Renata Picciani, MD
Dr. Renata Picciani, a board-certified ophthalmologist and retina surgeon, is providing care to patients in our Fort Lauderdale and Margate retinal clinics. A specialist in vitreoretinal diseases, Dr. Picciani volunteers with various health community organizations. To better serve her patients, Dr. Picciani is fluent in Spanish, Portugese, and English.
Dr. Picciani earned her doctoral degree in medicine at Fortaleza, Brazil’s Universidade Federal do Ceara. She then completed her residency in ophthalmology at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, during which she served as chief resident. Dr. Picciani then completed a medical retina fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami, followed by a second fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX.
Meet George Skopis, MD
A native of Tarpon Springs, FL, Dr. George Skopis, a board-certified ophthalmologist and retina surgeon, treats patients at our Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch, and Venice locations. Fluent in both Greek and English, he is an active member of prestigious organizations, including the American Board of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and the Vit-Buckle Society. A noted educator, author, and researcher, the doctor has contributed to clinical trials for the treatment of such vitreoretinal conditions as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vascular occlusions.
Dr. Skopis completed his ophthalmology residency at Washington, DC’s Georgetown University Hospital, during which he served as chief resident and volunteered with the Prevention of Blindness Society of DC, helping children in underserved communities. Dr. Skopis then completed a vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina fellowship at the combined Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary of the University of Illinois Chicago/University Retina program.
